More Than a Free Book...
Libraries provide an incredible opportunity for people to read without the financial burden of purchasing books. However, not every library has a diverse selection that represents the communities it serves, especially in smaller communities. Access to books by Black authors and independent writers can be limited.
As well, not everyone has reliable transportation or the financial freedom to purchase books. It's easy to overlook barriers we haven't personally experienced, but that doesn't make them any less real for those who have.
That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to participate in an annual promotion focused on making books by Black indie authors more accessible to readers.
This event brings together indie authors who offer their ebooks and audiobooks for free (or at significantly reduced prices). Authors are encouraged to offer up to three books for free, however, some offer more.
But this promotion is about so much more than free books.
It’s about giving readers the freedom to discover new authors, explore unfamiliar genres, and experience stories that reflect their lives and cultures. It’s about encouraging literacy, providing representation, and building communities through a shared love of reading. Most importantly, it’s about removing barriers that might otherwise keep someone from enjoying a good book.
And there’s something in it for indie authors, too.
For indie authors who lack the visibility that larger publishers can offer, a free book can introduce their work to an entirely new audience. That one reader could leave a positive review, recommend the book to others, purchase another title, or become a lifelong supporter.
So while I’d gladly participate even if the benefit went entirely to readers, I appreciate that this promotion creates opportunities on both sides.
Readers gain access, while authors gain visibility… and our literary community grows stronger because of it. So, Don’t Miss Out!
Tomorrow (11/8/26) is the last day of the promotion!
If you’re only interested in checking out my books, please visit my Author Page. Some of my books are free and others are discounted.
And if you’d like to discover even more books by Black authors, the entire selection is available through the BRAE website. (Once you’re on the website, click the tab that reads, 2026 Free Books). You might just discover your next favorite author!
As always, I am so glad you are walking this journey with me! Happy Reading!
